A driver who had the nerve to sell off his madam’s SUV worth N2.5 million for a mere N70,000, has found himself in more trouble than he saw coming.
Emmanuel Odunukwe, a private driver, has landed into trouble for stealing his madam’s Nissan Pathfinder SUV worth N2.5m and selling it for N70,000 to a buyer in Awka town in Anambra State.
According to a report by P.M. Express, Odunukwe was arrested at a popular hotel in Nnewi town in Anambra and brought to Lagos where he mentioned one Anene as being the person who negotiated with the buyer and the vehicle was sold at giveaway price.
They were charged before an Ejigbo Magistrates court on Wednesday for the alleged offence.
Odunukwe pleaded guilty to the two count of conspiracy and stealing and waited for the court to sentence him accordingly. While Anene pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr L.K.J Layeni granted Anene bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
P.M. Express reports that the owner, madam Njoku suffered her fate after Odunukwe was introduced to her by their neighbour and she employed him as driver for three months.
However, Odunukwe took her madam to Okota area, she got down from the vehicle to buy some items, he drove off, abandoned his madam and escaped.
The matter was reported to the police at Ikotun Division and Odunukwe was trailed and arrested.
The buyer reportedly abandoned the vehicle when he knew what happened and his girlfriend was arrested. He asked the police to come to Ihiala town in Anambra to recover the vehicle and refused to show up.
However, when the matter came up at the court, the prosecutor asked the court for short adjournment to enable him to present facts for his sentence.
While a date was adjourned for Anene who pleaded not guilty to face trial.
The matter was adjourned till 3 January, 2018 for facts and sentence including the trial of Anene.
