Soldiers Strip Driver Unclad For Having Incomplete Car Particulars In Abuja (Photos)

As shared by May Ebute......

'The brutality of the military and the paramilitary in Nigeria can actually make madmen out of sane people.
The man in this picture got his car impounded by Road safety officials around Mararaba axis of Abuja, for lack of having his complete vehicle particulars. He is said to be a kabu kabu driver who goes by the name John. He usually plies the Mararaba, Abuja axis. Eye witness account says that because he dared to argue with them, the FRSC officials called upon soldiers to help assist them in disciplining the man. Trust our Nigerian soldiers. They beat the man, rolled him in a pool of stagnant water and tore off his clothes, leaving him stark nakd, under the full glare of motorists and passersby. They say he who is down needs fear no fall. Rather than cower in shame, the man caused a major hold up. He blocked the highway in protest amidst cheers from spectators in solidarity with him. With stones in both hands, he dared any motorist to pass. Of course no one wanted a stone to land on their heads or cars, so they kept their distance.
I wonder when our military will learn to start treating civilians as humans and not animals'.

The suspect, Benjamin Okon, who has been parading himself as a military personnel, was arrested by the policemen who acted on a tip-off from members of the public.

It was learnt that the policemen swooped into action upon receiving the information, which eventually led to the arrest of the suspect on New Year day at about 5.00am.

“The suspect was fond of intimidating members of the public under the pretense that he is a Military personnel. His hostile attitude made people not to associate with him, however, when we suspected his moves, we summoned courage to report to the police”, the source revealed.

The suspect, who made a confessional statement during investigation at the police Command, said that he had an accomplice (name withheld) who received the stolen items from him.

He revealed that he usually goes to neighbouring states to snatch motorcycles, and his receiver, helping him to sell them to prospective buyers.

“I am an expert at snatching motorcycles from unsuspecting members of the public. I have stolen countless of Okada, which my accomplice had helped me to sell. I do travel far and wide across the country to perpetrate this crime.

“I robbed and sold looted items to him, and he subsequently sell them to some other persons. Once I bring the bikes to him, he will pay me off and I will move on to steal another one”, the suspect revealed.

Road Construction To Sambisa Forest Has Commenced - Nigerian Army

The Nigerian military yesterday said it has commenced the construction of roads into the Sambisa and Alagarno havens of the Boko Haram insurgents. The military also revealed that over 80 per cent of Sambisa forest has been captured from the insurgents as it insisted that the counter-insurgency war in the North-east is near it’s end.

The military equally disclosed at a press conference by the head of counter-insurgency operation in the North-east (Lafiya Dole Operation), Major General Lucky Irabor that 1,880 civilians mostly women were rescued from the insurgents in the last one week.

Irabor also revealed that in the last one week, 504 suspected Boko Haram insurgents were arrested with 19 voluntarily surrendering.

He noted that 37 foreigners are in the net of the military and presently undergoing interrogations to ascertaining their complicity.
Irabor during the press conference in Maiduguri, televised live to the nation said: “We have embarked on road construction within the Sambisa forest to open up the area and also ease our operations within the theater.”

“I call on individuals and cooperate organisations to come in and support the military, as everything cannot be left to government even with construction materials and other materials, as roads are essential in reviving the economic development of the North-east,” he said.

Irabor warned members of public, especially female students of tertiary institutions to be wary of new recruitment website, insisting that Boko Haram insurgency is an evil that was meant to destroy the society.

“I also urge the general public to continue to support the military in our final move to wipe out insurgency in the north-east through the provision of useful information and not to follow the ways of some media outfit that are bent on bringing down the military,” he appealed.
