He promised regularly to change but he never did. When my husband gets angry, he gets physical, not only to me but to anyone. He has done that with my house help who reported him to the Police years ago.I stayed because of my children and because a lot of people look up to me. 'Mercy Aigbe And Lanre Gentry Fight Often' – Mercy Aigbe’s Ex-staff

One of the worst places to look for the truth is on social media. That’s because even before the advent of filters and other photo editing applications, the Internet has always been a theatre of absurd lies.

Prior to last week, anyone looking through actress, Mercy Aigbe’s Instagram page would have concluded that she had a perfect marriage with her husband, Lanre Gentry. However, the truth showed its face last week and pictures of Mercy’s badly beaten face which circulated on the Internet became the fodder for jokes, indignation and angst online.

In the course of digging for information on what actually went down in the marriage, Sunday Scoop spoke with a source who once worked with Mercy at her Mag Divas Boutique, located at Omole, Lagos. According to the former employee, the actress and her husband often had quarrels in the boutique.

“Their marriage has always been a ‘strange’ one. On some days, they could come in laughing together and act all lovey-dovey and on some other days, they’d enter the shop arguing and cursing each other at the top of their voices.

“There have been several times that aunty Mercy and her husband came into the shop arguing at the top of their voices. There was a particular day that the argument was so heated that we thought the situation was going to degenerate badly. They continued shouting even as they went into Mercy’s office. However, they emerged some time later full of smiles and kissing each other. We, the staff, were really surprised and the incident strengthened our resolve not to interfere in their squabbles as they could be unpredictable,” the former staff of Mag Divas said.

Recalling another incident of intense anger between the couple, our source said, “The last scene I witnessed of them was when her husband came into the shop shouting. He accused Mercy of not giving him enough attention. He also complained that she doesn’t always cook for him and their children but prefers going to parties.”

Meanwhile, when Sunday Scoop got in touch with Lanre during the week, he maintained that his estranged wife has some type of mental illness. “I don’t want to say anything more about my marriage for now. When it is the right time, everyone will know the truth. Mercy has mental illness and I have taken her to several places all in a bid to get a cure. Right now, I have been prevailed on not to say anything again,” he said.

Lanre also claimed that the pictures of Mercy’s bruised face were taken on a movie set and she was only playing a game.

In a swift reaction, Mercy stated that her team had advised her to remain silent but she may be ‘forced’ to spill the beans on what actually happened in their seven years’ marriage. The actress asserted that Lanre was only trying to twist the narrative to suit himself but that she would speak at the appropriate time. According to her, he is telling lies wrongly thinking it would reduce or erase his guilt.

The Lagos State Police Command has declared the estranged husband of popular Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe wanted. In connection with the incident, 3 other suspects have been arrested .

The Divisional Police officer of the Ojudu division, CSP, Fatai Shoetan, in a report, said “Lanre Gentry is now at large and three suspects were arrested and charged to Magistrate court 8 Ogba.”

When news broke towards the end of last week that the marriage of star actress, Mercy Aigbe to Lanre Gentry was about to hit the rock, even with her pictures showing her battered face all over the blogosphere, many people hoped that it was a publicity stunt.

However, as Saturday Beats learnt, the marriage may have fallen apart irretrievably. In a chat with her estranged husband Lanre, he insisted that he had never beaten his wife. He further claimed that the ace actress has mental illness which he said is affecting her.

Gentry revealed that Mercy had been battling the illness for a while but that he had always been there for her all through the years they had been together.

He said, “I am not fighting with Mercy, she is the one plotting how to get out of the marriage and I am not a party to that because I have never touched her and I will never do so. She has mental problem and that is what is disturbing her for now. There is a place I normally go to help her get herbal concoction to stabilise her condition, I would go there soon to get the herbal remedy for her. I don’t care about whatever anybody writes, I have granted an interview with the person that I trust.”

The auto dealer claimed that the mother of two had been unfaithful to him, adding that she left his house for over a month.

He said, “Mercy is committing bigamy because she is still married to me and another man has rented an apartment for her. She has left my house for almost a month and she has been camped with the man. Marriage is not by force, I cannot force her to stay with me because I am not handicapped. She spends my money. The car she uses, I bought it for her and it cost me about N9.8m, I have the receipt with me. I don’t have anything against Mercy but she should continue with whatever she has against me.”

During the week, it was reported that the actress had obtained a restraining order against her husband. But in his words, Gentry regarded that restraining order as a “kangaroo injunction.”

“I don’t have any issue with Mercy. She has found a better offer than the love I give her so she wants to move on. I have helped her career and put her in the limelight but now she believes she needs another man that she can dupe. I have God by my side. I still saw Mercy during the week, Wednesday to be precise. It was reported that she obtained a restraining order against me but the truth is that it is a kangaroo injunction. Is it possible for the court to restrain me from seeing my child or a person that took my property out of my house? Is it possible? I learnt she went to the police but they did not lend her a listening ear so she decided to use the judiciary and we would meet there. She went to the Lagos State government and was told that they prefer to reconcile marriages instead of dissolving them. I have never beaten Mercy and I would never do such,” he said.

When asked if he still loves his wife, the estranged husband who has a child with the actress simply said, “For now I cannot say that I love my wife but before, I loved her.”

When Saturday Beats reached out to the actress, a source from her camp who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that it was laughable that Gentry would claim that the actress has mental problems. The source said that the estranged husband turned the actress to his cash cow.

“It is a big lie, the truth is that Lanre Gentry has been living off Mercy’s hard earned money. In fact, Mercy is his walking ATM. He does not do anything and to make matters worse, he does not pay the children’s school fees. The man is a mad man. A court paper was served on him on Wednesday and when they took it to his office, he claimed that he was Lanre Gentry’s personal assistant, unknown to him that his picture was taken while he was signing for the document he received. He is just shooting himself in the foot.

“He knows within himself that Mercy can afford to get a house in Lekki if she wishes to do so. He is just a pathetic liar and he should find another angle. Mercy does not have mental illness and if he wants to dent her image, he should look for another angle to do so,” the source said.

Meanwhile the actress also refuted all claims by her husband via her Instagram handle on Friday. She wrote, “Dear Lanre Gentry, it breaks my heart that I have to do this but as it is, you have left me with no choice. I have had sleepless nights because I just couldn’t comprehend why someone I loved, someone with whom I have a child will be hell bent on destroying me, I just cannot comprehend it.I read with tears in my eyes all the lies you fabricated against me. Lies you feel will justify your inhumane act, lies you feel will gain you public sympathy and lies calculated to bring my person to public opprobrium.You claim I am mentally unstable, that you have caught me with different men. I do not take care of my parents and that a man rented an apartment for me. LIES all LIES.Dear hubby, I challenge you to back your claims with PROOF!!!!!!!!! Lanre you forget quickly, you forget how I have laboured and stood by you all these years, even though all what I was getting from you was constant beating, harassment, threat to my life and threat to destroy my image if I dared to leave you. You must prove all your allegations otherwise God knows I am going to add another lawsuit to the one on ground. Although my Team has been pleading with me to stay silent, but I have come to realize that you want to ride on my keeping mum.”

In a telephone conversation with Saturday Beats, she maintained that she would rather remain silent on the matter till the court decides the fate of her husband who has been charged with wife battery allegations. She said that she believed in the Nigerian justice system and she is optimistic that justice would prevail.

"Mercy Aigbe Has Mental Problem; I Caught Her Severally With Men" - Lanre Gentry

Larry Gentry, the businessman husband of actress, Mercy Aigbe, has sensationally revealed that his wife and mother of his son, is mentally unstable. In a chat with BONONLINE, Wednesday morning, Larry said, “Mercy has mental issues and i am the one who knows how many places we’ve been to so she can remain stable. I have papers to prove these.”

Larry, who has come under several attacks for allegedly beating the popular actress, disclosed that contrary to the news that made the rounds, it was Mercy that ganged up with her friends in her designer, Luminee House, to attack him. He claimed that while the others beat him, his wife hit him hard with a stool.

Invoking biblical curses on himself, the auto merchant sweared that he has never beaten Mercy in their seven years of marriage despite the fact that he has caught her several times frollicking and fornicating with different men.

He gave an example of last year when she said that she was going to China for two weeks but instead, spent the whole time in a Dubai hotel with a man. To lend credence to this claim, Larry showed us different whatsapp conversations to buttress this allegation and a particular one where Mercy was asking a third party to get some dollars from the man for her.

“When I challenged my wife, she said she only wanted to collect money from him – a married woman!!! But i discovered that it was the same man that paid for the Magodo house she just moved to, which i also found out had been rented over a month ago.”

Continuing, Larry said, “See, i understand Mercy’s antics too well. All she wants is to move out of my house and be free to live the life of a single woman. What i have tolerated from her all these years, no man can tolerate from any woman.” He said further that as a husband, “I worship mercy and I have deposited N8m at Benefit Motors to buy her a N16m Range Rover ENVOGUE for her 40th birthday. I have also paid N1.2m for a hall opposite Sheraton Hotel to celebrate her big but she has her eyes on other things.”

Asked why he has not consulted her family to intervene, he says Mercy has no regard for her parents, citing an example of last year when her dad collapsed while on the queue to get his pension and was rushed to the hosipital. When the actress was informed, Larry said she lied that she was in Calabar and till now, had not gone to see the old man. He claimed that he was the one that went there and spent about N180,000, adding that because she refused to take care of her mom, he put the old woman on a salary of N25, 000 per month.

Husband to Nigerian actress and film director, Mercy Aigbe, Lanre Gentry has said that most men would not tolerate what his wife has done to him in the past 7 years they have been married.

Lanre told BON that he had shown her love and support in the last seven years despite some unbelievable things he had seen her do and had endured for the sake of keeping the marriage and her image intact.
