Ondo Govt Stops Payment Of WASSCE Registration Fees

The Ondo State government yesterday declared that it would no longer pay for the registration of students for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The government insisted that parents and guardians would continue to be responsible for the payment of their children and wards’ fees for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination next year.

Addressing journalists in Akure, the state capital, after the State Executive Council meeting, the state commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Femi Agagu, alongside his Information and Orientation counterpart, Mr. Yemi Olowolabi, said the SEC also adopted 19-point recommendations of the education summit.

Libya: Barack Obama Caused Slave Trade In Africa – Reno Omokri

 

Reno Omokri, former Presidential aide, has accused ex-United States president, Barack Obama of being responsible for the alleged ongoing slave trade in Libya.

Omokri also alleged that Obama staged the removal of former Libyan President, Muammar Gaddafi from power.

The former Special Adviser on New Media to Jonathan said before Obama staged Gaddafi’s removal, the late Libyan ruler was sympathetic to the plight of Africans.

In a post on his Facebook page, the US-based cleric noted that slave trade started after Gaddafi was ousted, adding that the late president wouldn’t have allowed such action.

We’re Owing Workers 5 Months’ Salaries, Not 16 Months – Bayelsa Govt

The Bayelsa State Government on Thursday described the impression that it was owing workers between 10 and 16 months’ salary backlog as inaccurate.

It insisted that outstanding obligation to its workforce was four-and-a-half months.

The state government clarified the status of indebtedness to labour in a statement issued by the commissioner for Information, Daniel Iworiso-Markson.

According to Mr Iworiso-Markson, the arrears of four and half months accumulated in 2016 due to a sharp drop in the revenue profile of the state, adding that following improvements in receipts from the federation account, the state has no outstanding salary in 2017 fiscal year.

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi, says 25 officials of the Corps had been relieved of their jobs in Abuja.

He said this was done after various allegations of corruption were established against them.

The FRSC boss was fielding questions from newsmen at the 2017 Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council on Thursday.

He delivered a lecture entitled, “Road Safety in Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects” at the event.

‘How Presidency Approved Contract Worth $40m To Jonathan’s Cousin’- EFCC Tells Court

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Thursday told the Federal High Court in Abuja, that payment for $40million contract that was awarded to Azibaola Robert, cousin to former President Goodluck Jonathan was dully approved by the presidency.

Azibola and his wife, Stella, are currently answering to a seven-count criminal charge the EFCC preferred against their firm, Oneplus Holdings Limited.

At the resumed hearing, the 10th Prosecution witness, PW-10, in the case, Mr. David Mkpe, who is an EFCC operative that investigated the deal between the company and the Office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, told trial Justice Nnamdi Dimgba that he was aware of a Presidential memo approving both the contract and payment for the job.

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has condemned the sack of 4, 042 local government workers by the Kaduna State Government.

The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Jafaru Sani, had on Wednesday said the mass sack formed part of the state government’s restructuring of the local government system in the state.

Reacting to the development, the NLC declared the sack as ‘illegal’, saying that the action violates labour laws and industrial relations practice in the country.

A Nigerian returnee from Libya has revealed that 25 compatriots, ferried from Nigeria to Libya by a trafficker identified as Charles, perished in the Sahara Desert, in the course of the journey.

The returnee, who identified himself as Alex Otoide, from Edo state, said seven members of the group also died inside a Libyan jail.

“We were 55 that travelled from here to Libya, 25 people died in the desert.More than seven people died from hunger and thirst inside the prison”, Otoide said in a report published by TheNation newspaper today.
